As the buds start to burst on our 85th Vintage we can’t help but get a little nostalgic and proud of what our family has accomplished. Since docking in New Zealand in 1927 our family has been embedded in the wine history of our country. So, we figured why not take you on a walk down memory lane? Bartul Soljan decided it was time to leave our home land of Stari Grad, Croatia, so with his family in tow he boarded first the Ulimaroa and then the Orsova and begun the journey to New Zealand. Upon landing on NZ soil he did what he knew – he started planting vines! His wines were produced under the label “Pergola Wines” and he quickly became known around town.
